A Bus Crash in a Venice Suburb Kills at Least 21 People

BY A STAFF REPORTER:  At least 21 people were killed and 18 others injured when a bus carrying foreign tourists, including Ukrainians, lost control and plunged into a gorge near venice, Italy.

Venice city official Renato Borasso said four of the injured were in critical condition after the crash in the mainland's Mestre borough, opposite the historic Old City of Venice. Venice Prefect Michel de Bari said two children were among the dead. Borasso confirmed that some of the dead were Ukrainians and that the bus was taking tourists to a camping site.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said on Twitter that the scene of the crash was "devastating" and that the city had declared "mourning" for the "numerous victims" on the bus. " Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney expressed "deep shock" after the accident.
