7 injured in shooting after Virginia high school graduation ceremony

At least seven people were injured when a gunman opened fire after a high school graduation ceremony in Virginia.

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Police and school district officials said seven people were shot, three of them with life-threatening injuries, in a shooting tuesday near Virginia Commonwealth University near Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Richmond Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards said two suspects have been taken into custody after the incident. '

Edwards said the graduation ceremony was going on at the high school, where officers heard gunshots and went outside and saw several people who had been shot. Four people had injuries that were not life-threatening. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community. ' 

"We will do everything we can to bring the people involved to justice," Mayor Laver Stoney said. It shouldn't be anywhere. " 

Richmond Public Schools said the shooting occurred in Monroe Park near the college campus after a graduation ceremony at Huguenot High School.
