BY A STAFF REPORTER: Five bodies have been found trapped under a tunnel submerged in heavy rains in central South Korea, fire officials said.

Rescuers began an underwater search operation early Sunday and rescued five people from a bus that sank in the waters of a flooded underpass in Cheongju, officials said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior and Security said 26 people were killed and 10 missing as of 6 am on Saturday due to landslides and floods across the country due to heavy rains.

The number of casualties from the flooded tunnel was not included in the ministry's data because it was not immediately clear how many people and vehicles were trapped under the water.
