16 migrants killed and 29 injured in a bus crash in southern mexico

BY A STAFF REPORTER: At least 16 migrants from Venezuela and Haiti were killed in a bus accident in southern Mexico early Friday. Mexico's National Immigration Institute initially reported 18 deaths, but later reduced it. Prosecutors in the southern state of Oaxaca later said some bodies had been overcounted because they had been torn to pieces, and the actual death toll was 16.

Among the dead were two women and three children, and 29 people were injured. There was no immediate word on their condition. There were a total of 55 migrants in the car, most of them Venezuelans.
