Rebel attacks! Killed 12

BY A STAFF REPORTER: An extremist rebel group has killed at least 12 people in northeastern Congo, a local civil society group said on Saturday.

New Congo's Civil Society Organization (NSCC) said 12 people were shot dead by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an affiliate of the Islamic State group that has been attacking from a base in eastern Congo that has been volatile for years after clashes with local armed militias.

Conflict has raged in eastern Congo for decades as numerous armed groups struggle to control precious mineral resources. There are frequent massacres and violence has triggered the exodus of refugees.
