By a Staff Reporter: The festival of Holi is always celebrated in a special way in Uttar Pradesh, but the Holi festival in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh is completely different and unique. Following a 300-year-old tradition, a man dressed as the 'Holi Dulha' (the groom of Holi) comes out dressed as the groom, and the women of the entire village participate in the procession. The most notable aspect of this tradition is that only women participate in the procession that starts from the Ram Janaki temple. No men take part in it. More than a dozen horses are also part of the procession.

How is this tradition observed?

First, a person is dressed as the 'groom' and placed on a horse. Then, accompanied by drums and music, the procession goes around the entire village. The women of the village welcome the 'groom' by applying tilak, then perform aarti and bid him farewell by feeding him sweets. After observing this tradition, the festival of colors begins in the entire village. After the procession, a Hiranyakashipu killing drama is staged in the village, further deepening the religious and cultural significance of Holi. This unique Holi in Hamirpur creates a unique blend of devotion, joy and colors, which inspires enthusiasm among the villagers every year.
