Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday welcomed the Union government’s latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, describing them as a major step toward easing the burden on households, farmers, and patients.
“GST rates on life-saving medicines are now zero, other medicines reduced to 5%. Farmers and education materials also get big relief with GST cuts. This reform will boost the economy, increase buying power, and strengthen markets. Thanks to PM Modi and FM Sitharaman for making this happen,” Adityanath said in a statement.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the decision to bring down GST on essential medicines would make healthcare more accessible to the poor and middle class, while the reduced taxation on agricultural inputs is expected to lower farming costs and support rural livelihoods. He also noted that cuts on educational materials would directly benefit students and families, easing expenses in the education sector.
