Kolkata, 16 August — West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has strongly reacted to allegations made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh, who claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was backing the upcoming film The Bengal Files.
Speaking to reporters, Bhattacharya questioned the criticism surrounding the movie and emphasized that films exploring sensitive chapters of history should not be dismissed. “Was Kashmir silent? Wasn’t there an exodus of Kashmiri Pandits? The Tashkent Files was made, and everybody knows how Lal Bahadur Shastri died. The current generation should know all the facts. Did the Great Calcutta Killing happen or not?” he said.
He further alleged that the Bengali film industry has long been under the influence of the ruling TMC, making it difficult for filmmakers to explore subjects outside the mainstream narrative. “Kunal Ghosh will speak like this. The film industry of Bengal has been influenced by TMC, so anybody going beyond, they question. With this, there has been a face loss of Bengal today,” Bhattacharya added.
