The Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned space scientist and former ISRO Chairman, Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan. In a heartfelt tribute, he described Dr. Kasturirangan as a visionary leader whose pioneering efforts not only elevated India’s space programme to global recognition but also left a lasting imprint on the nation's educational and scientific landscape.
“Saddened by the passing of renowned space scientist and former Chairman of ISRO, Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan Ji. A visionary leader, he was instrumental in propelling India’s space programme to global prominence, laying the groundwork for many of its landmark achievements,” the Vice President stated in a social media post.
Dr. Kasturirangan's leadership at ISRO marked a transformative era, including key missions that enhanced India's capabilities in remote sensing, satellite communication, and launch vehicle development. Beyond space, he also played a central role in shaping India’s education policy, advocating for holistic reforms and the integration of scientific thinking into everyday life.
His lifetime of contributions was recognized with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan — among India’s highest civilian honors.
