Haridwar, Uttarakhand – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 50th National Kabaddi Championship at the Indoor Stadium in Haridwar, highlighting Uttarakhand’s renewed focus on sports development and athlete welfare.
Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said, "Uttarakhand has implemented a new sports policy providing government jobs to athletes who win medals at the national and international levels. Residential sports colleges in the state offer free training, education, accommodation, food, and kits to athletes."
To further encourage young talent, the state has introduced 4% reservation for athletes in government jobs and sports scholarships for advanced preparation starting from the age of 8. The prize money for athletes has also been doubled to boost motivation.
Highlighting infrastructure upgrades, the CM announced a significant investment of ₹500 crore for the upcoming 38th National Games. "We are building new sports grounds, reconstructing existing facilities, and preparing infrastructure for water sports, cycling tracks, and a state-of-the-art shooting range," Dhami noted. He added that the National Games would be organized under the theme of "Green Games" to promote environmental protection.
