Lucknow — In a groundbreaking decision aimed at honoring and integrating Agnipath scheme recruits into state services, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 20% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment for several wings of the state’s security forces. The provision will apply to posts in the police constabulary, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), mounted police, and fire services.
Alongside this quota, eligible candidates will receive a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit, making the transition from military service to civil security roles smoother and more accessible. With this announcement, Uttar Pradesh becomes the first state in India to adopt such a policy, underscoring its commitment to the welfare and future of Agnipath scheme veterans.
The decision aligns with the central government’s vision to create a pathway for short-term Agniveer recruits to continue serving the nation after completing their tenure in the armed forces. It also addresses the state’s need for disciplined, well-trained, and mission-ready personnel in its security apparatus.
