New Delhi: Reacting to the controversy surrounding Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi being stopped from visiting Sambhal, Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLM) National President Upendra Kushwaha has defended the decision taken by the local administration.

Addressing the media, Kushwaha said, "The local government is answerable on what can be permissible as per the law and order situation. Who should be allowed and who can cause the atmosphere to stir up again, the district administration knows best, seeing which decision has been taken."

Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was planning to visit Sambhal to meet the families of those affected by recent violence in the region. However, they were stopped citing potential disruptions to the fragile law and order situation.

Kushwaha’s statement comes amidst widespread debates over the government's handling of opposition leaders attempting to engage directly with affected communities in sensitive areas. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability, leaving such decisions to the discretion of the administration, which is better equipped to assess on-ground realities.

The incident has further fueled political sparring between the ruling party and the Congress, with the latter alleging suppression of democratic rights. Meanwhile, Kushwaha’s remarks underline the stance that security and public order should take precedence over political optics.

The situation in Sambhal remains tense but under control, with local authorities closely monitoring developments to ensure peace is maintained.
