Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath invoked historical perspectives on India’s past while stressing the importance of self-reliance and indigenous production.

Addressing a gathering, Adityanath said that during the early invasions up to the 12th century, India’s Hindu population was estimated at 60 crore, but by the time of Independence in 1947 it stood at 30 crore. He attributed this decline not only to invasions but also to hunger, disease, and other hardships under foreign rule. “This is how foreign slavery happens. This country was oppressed and exploited,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister said that India historically had the resources and talent to prosper but was weakened by divisions along caste, region, and language. He cautioned that such tendencies still persist, likening them to a continuation of a “foreign mentality” that divides society.
