Lucknow: In a significant crackdown on cross-border espionage, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (UP ATS) arrested a suspected spy working for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from Moradabad. The accused, identified as Shahzad, hails from Rampur and had allegedly been passing sensitive information related to India’s security to Pakistani handlers.
According to UP ATS, Shahzad had been frequently visiting Pakistan for several years and was involved in illegally smuggling goods—including cosmetics, clothes, and spices—across the India-Pakistan border. Investigators say that under the cover of these activities, Shahzad was operating as an agent for the ISI, Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency.
He is reported to have developed strong ties with ISI agents and maintained constant communication with them. Officials confirmed that Shahzad shared confidential security-related information with his handlers in Pakistan.
Following the verification of these activities, a case was registered at ATS Headquarters in Lucknow under Sections 148 and 152 of the Indian Penal Code. Shahzad was arrested from Moradabad on Monday and is being presented before the court in accordance with legal procedures.
