The political battle over alleged voter list discrepancies in Maharashtra intensified during the Parliament Budget Session, with Union Minister of State (MoS) SP Singh Baghel strongly criticizing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s claims. Gandhi had alleged that Maharashtra had more registered voters than its adult population, raising concerns about electoral integrity.

Responding to these remarks, Baghel accused the Congress of disrespecting democratic institutions. “This is an insult to Maharashtra voters and democracy. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they said the Constitution was in danger, and now they are insulting democracy by questioning constitutional organizations,” Baghel said.

He further argued that opposition parties only raise concerns about electoral processes when they lose elections. “Congress formed a full majority government in Telangana and Karnataka, AAP formed governments in Delhi and Punjab, Samajwadi Party and BSP in UP, and TMC in West Bengal. When they fail to form the government, they criticize constitutional organizations,” he added.
