New Delhi — Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna on Tuesday strongly defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance on the Indus Water Treaty, while launching a sharp attack on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over his recent comments.

Responding to the opposition voiced by Siddaramaiah regarding the Centre’s handling of the Indus Water Treaty, Somanna said, “PM Modi is the leader of the country, and all the parties are welcoming his decision. Whatever decision the Prime Minister takes to protect the country, we all will have to support him.”

Somanna went further, questioning Siddaramaiah’s judgment. “If he had common sense, he wouldn't have spoken like that... I don't think he has common sense,” the minister remarked, igniting political tensions between the BJP and the Congress.
