Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday proposed the launch of a "cotton revolution" from Coimbatore, bringing together key stakeholders in the cotton sector to address cultivation challenges and enhance productivity.
Speaking at a gathering that included cotton farmers, top agricultural scientists, and officials from across cotton-producing states, Chouhan said, “Everyone associated with the cotton industry is here in Coimbatore. Farmers from cotton-producing states, top scientists of the country, ICR DG and other responsible officials, and agriculture ministers of cotton-producing states are present here.”
He emphasised the significance of the event, noting that Coimbatore — a major textile and agricultural hub — would serve as the starting point for nationwide efforts aimed at strengthening cotton production and improving farmer incomes.
“We will kickstart a cotton revolution from Coimbatore. Discussions will be held all day on the problems faced during cultivation and on increasing productivity,” the minister added.
