By A Staff Reporter — During a recent visit to Hyderabad, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy highlighted urgent issues affecting the city's infrastructure, particularly in older parts of Hyderabad. Reddy pointed out that basic necessities like drainage systems, drinking water access, and road connectivity have been consistently overlooked for the past decade, with limited improvements by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

“There’s been a serious lack of attention to core infrastructure in the original Hyderabad over the last 10 years, and even today, this neglect continues,” Reddy remarked. He noted that the GHMC is facing a financial crunch, which has led to delays in payments to contractors. The payment issues have deterred contractors from taking on new projects, exacerbating the city’s infrastructural stagnation.

Reddy appealed to the Telangana Chief Minister to address these problems before focusing on beautification initiatives, stressing that resolving the drainage system issues should be prioritized. “I request the government to allocate the necessary funds so that contractors are motivated to complete these essential projects,” he added.

The Union Minister’s call for action is part of a larger appeal to the state government to focus on the needs of Hyderabad’s residents, ensuring that basic amenities are accessible and that urban infrastructure receives consistent maintenance.
