Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda delivered a keynote address at a World AIDS Day event organised by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in New Delhi, underscoring the nation’s continued commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. During his address, the minister emphasised that the day serves as both a reminder of challenges faced and a renewal of efforts to eliminate the disease with sustained determination.
Highlighting the progress achieved in HIV prevention and treatment over the decades, Nadda said that humanity has witnessed a prolonged struggle against AIDS but has continued to move forward with resilience. He noted that India’s response to HIV has been strong and strategic, supported by awareness initiatives, medical interventions, community involvement and targeted programmes addressing vulnerable groups.
“We have congregated here on World AIDS Day in a way to reiterate our fight against AIDS and to expedite progress in that direction,” he said. “We must look back to understand the journey, analyse the present, and design strategies for the future. This is our commitment and the message of World AIDS Day.”
