The Union Cabinet has approved a Central Sector Scheme titled “Grant-in-aid to National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC)” with a financial outlay of ₹2000 crore for the period 2025–26 to 2028–29. The decision was welcomed by several leaders, including Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who praised the move as a boost to rural development and self-reliant growth under the cooperative model.
In a social media post, CM Sawant wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to the Union Cabinet led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for approving the Central Sector Scheme 'Grant-in-aid to National Cooperative Development Corporation'... A big step towards Viksit Bharat.”
The NCDC plays a key role in promoting and financing cooperative societies across sectors such as agriculture, dairy, fisheries, and rural credit. The ₹2000 crore grant-in-aid is expected to enhance the capacity of cooperatives in underserved and rural areas, helping them become engines of inclusive economic development.
