New Delhi: Congress leader Udit Raj has hit back at the BJP for its criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s recent trip to Vietnam, claiming the ruling party is trying to distract from more pressing issues. Raj questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his ministers, or BJP spokespersons had expressed any mourning over the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
"Is the PM or his ministers or the BJP spokespersons mourning (over Dr. Manmohan Singh's demise)? Whether Rahul Gandhi stays here or goes there... They (BJP-led central govt) didn't even provide space for his (Manmohan Singh's) memorial," Raj said. His comments came as the BJP targeted Gandhi's foreign trip, accusing him of being out of touch with national concerns.
Raj further emphasized the significance of Rahul Gandhi, calling him a statesman, a skilled debater, and a politician with a broad following across India. He contrasted Gandhi’s prominence with the BJP’s lack of a comparable leader.
"Rahul Gandhi is a statesman, debater, and has a following around the country, but BJP doesn't have anyone like him," Raj remarked, asserting that the BJP’s criticisms were politically motivated and detracted from more important issues, including Dr. Singh's legacy and the party's leadership vacuum.
