New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has launched a sharp attack on the central government over its past handling of the farmers' protests, accusing it of hypocrisy and suppression. Referring to the prolonged standoff between farmers and the Centre that began in 2020, Thackeray said the government had shown no concern when farmers were dying, fasting, or being forcefully prevented from entering the national capital.

“For two to three years, farmers who wanted to come to Delhi were blocked. Some of the poor farmers died. But the government didn’t remember them then,” Thackeray said, condemning what he described as a calculated attempt to stifle the voice of protesting farmers.

He recalled how protestors were branded as extremists, with terms like “Naxalites” used to discredit their movement. “Guns were used on them. Walls were erected,” he said, referring to the barricading of Delhi’s borders and alleged use of force during the protests.
