Ranchi: Two policemen were killed and another injured during a special anti-Naxal operation in the Kedla jungle under the Manatu area of Jharkhand’s Palamu district, officials said on Thursday.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the loss of the two personnel, identified as Santan Mehta and Sunil Ram. In a post on social media, he described their sacrifice as “extremely heartbreaking” and extended condolences to the bereaved families. “May Marang Buru grant peace to the souls of the departed brave martyrs and provide strength to the grieving family members to endure this hour of sorrow,” Soren said.

The chief minister also confirmed that medical treatment is being provided to another jawan injured in the encounter and wished him a speedy recovery.

Security forces have been conducting intensified operations in the Palamu region, a known stronghold of Naxal groups, in recent months. The Kedla jungle has seen multiple combing operations aimed at flushing out insurgents and dismantling their networks.
