Guwahati: Assam police have arrested two individuals in connection with the death of noted singer Zubeen Garg, officials said on Tuesday. The arrested persons, Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, were detained in Singapore and subsequently brought to Guwahati for further investigation.
According to police, Mahanta was the chief organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, where Garg had been invited to perform. Sharma, who worked as the late singer’s manager, was also taken into custody. Both are being questioned about the circumstances surrounding Garg’s participation in the festival and the events leading up to his death.
Authorities have not disclosed specific charges but confirmed that the arrests are linked to the ongoing investigation into the singer’s sudden demise, which has shocked fans across Assam and the Northeast. Police officials said the case is being pursued with priority given the public interest and the prominence of the artist.
