Kolkata — Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP for equating political developments in West Bengal with counter-terror operations, calling it an affront to the people of the state.
Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Ghosh said, “Operation Sindoor is an operation against terrorists. When the BJP refers to 'Operation Bengal' in the same breath, it is an insult to the people of Bengal—particularly the men of Bengal. There is no comparison between Operation Sindoor and what is happening in Bengal.”
He argued that the term “Operation Bengal” undermines the democratic nature of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections and suggested it reflects the BJP’s disregard for the state’s autonomy. “Calling it 'Operation Bengal' shows the BJP is not a friend of Bengal; they oppose Bengal’s rights,” Ghosh added.
The TMC leader also accused the BJP of misusing central agencies to block development funds meant for the state. “Central agencies have blocked funds that belong to Bengal under BJP’s influence. This is politically motivated,” he alleged.
Ghosh defended West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s continued protests against the Centre, calling her a voice for the state’s people. “Mamata Banerjee is standing in protest on behalf of Bengal, and the people have already rejected the BJP here,” he said.
