New Delhi: TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay raised significant concerns in Parliament regarding the central government’s decision to withhold funds meant for West Bengal. During a discussion, he questioned Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman about the matter, alleging unfair targeting of the state. "I asked Nirmala ji on the floor of the House why money belonging to West Bengal is being blocked. She said things like there was corruption and a central team had gone there. I said West Bengal should not be targeted," he remarked.
Bandyopadhyay called for a fair and transparent approach, emphasizing that withholding funds would hinder crucial state development projects and affect the state's welfare. He urged the government to not use political differences as a pretext for punishing states.
Further, the TMC leader strongly opposed the 'One Nation, One Election' bill, describing it as "anti-federal" and a move that could undermine India's diversity. He warned that such a proposal could centralize power, diminishing the autonomy of state governments and impacting regional issues.
"This move is anti-federal," Bandyopadhyay said, criticizing the bill’s potential impact on the democratic balance between the states and the central government. His comments underscore growing opposition to the bill from regional parties concerned about its implications for federalism in India.
