Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy has voiced strong disapproval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address in the Lok Sabha. Roy accused the Prime Minister of failing to address critical issues raised by the opposition, instead choosing to reiterate points already covered in the President's speech.
“I am very dissatisfied with the PM's speech,” Roy stated. “He just repeated what the President had said but did not answer a single question raised by the opposition.” Roy highlighted specific instances where he believed the Prime Minister avoided addressing pressing concerns, notably the issue of fatalities during the Kumbh Mela in Maharashtra. “For instance, the number of deaths in (Maha) Kumbh was a matter of grave concern, but there was no mention or clarification from the PM,” he added.
Roy’s comments reflect broader frustration among opposition leaders, who feel that their questions and criticisms are routinely sidestepped in parliamentary discussions. The Motion of Thanks is traditionally seen as an opportunity for the Prime Minister to respond to opposition queries and provide clarity on the government's policies, but Roy contends that this expectation was not met.
The TMC MP also criticized the government's approach to transparency and accountability. “This was an opportunity for the Prime Minister to engage in meaningful dialogue with the opposition, but instead, it turned into a one-sided speech lacking substance,” Roy remarked. He argued that avoiding answers to key issues like public health, governance failures, and economic challenges only deepens the public’s disillusionment.
