PATNA, Bihar – Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Kalyan Banerjee has demanded that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar take a clear stand on the controversial legislation. Speaking to the media, Banerjee criticized Kumar’s silence on the issue, asserting that it raised questions about his political integrity.
“Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should clear his stand on it (the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024). He should tell whether he supports the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 or not. Interestingly, he is remaining silent,” Banerjee stated. He emphasized the political ramifications of Kumar's silence, suggesting that any statement he made could jeopardize his tenure as Chief Minister.
Banerjee further accused Nitish Kumar of being the “most opportunistic politician” in the country, stating, “If he says anything, he will not be the Chief Minister... People are saying that he (Bihar CM Nitish Kumar) is the most opportunistic politician of the country itself.” The TMC leader’s remarks reflect the growing tensions within the political landscape, as the Waqf (Amendment) Bill continues to generate debates across states.
