Kolkata, West Bengal — Following a scuffle during the Waqf Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh came out in defense of his party colleague, MP Kalyan Banerjee. Speaking about the incident, Ghosh dismissed the allegations made by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, asserting that the accusations were unfounded.
"What Jagdambika Pal is saying is baseless. Kalyan Banerjee was right," Ghosh stated, referring to the heated exchange that took place during the meeting. According to Ghosh, the provocation came from a BJP MP, who is also an ex-judge, leading to Banerjee's anger. "The BJP MP was provoking him, and that is why Kalyan Banerjee got a little angry," he explained.
Despite the altercation, Ghosh stood by Banerjee's stance, insisting that the points raised by him were valid. "The points made by Kalyan Banerjee were the right points," Ghosh emphasized.
Ghosh also took issue with the conduct of the committee chairman, accusing him of politicizing the proceedings. "How can the chairman of the committee hold a press conference? He is doing politics in the committee meeting," Ghosh remarked, criticizing the chairman for allegedly overstepping his role.
The incident has drawn attention to tensions within the committee, as both sides blame each other for the disruptions.
