Bijapur, Chhattisgarh — In a significant security operation against Naxalite insurgency, three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on November 8. The clash took place in the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathpalli, situated at the tri-junction of Usoor, Basaguda, and Pamed, areas often marked by Naxalite activity.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range), Sundarraj P, provided details of the operation, explaining that the encounter involved a coordinated effort by multiple forces, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the elite CoBRA unit. According to Sundarraj, "There was an exchange of fire between the security forces and Naxalites on the forested hills. The bodies of three Naxalites have been recovered."
In addition to recovering the bodies, security forces seized a cache of weapons from the site. Items confiscated included a self-loading rifle (SLR), a sniper weapon, and other rifles. The seizure of these arms highlights the operational capabilities of the Naxal groups in the region and underscores the ongoing threat they pose to security.
Sundarraj confirmed that search operations are still underway in the dense forests surrounding Rekhapalli-Komathpalli. The forces are combing the area to ensure that any remaining insurgents are neutralized, and additional weapons caches are discovered.
This operation marks a notable success in the government’s broader strategy to dismantle Naxalite influence in the Bastar region. The tri-junction area, where the encounter occurred, has long served as a strategic base for Naxalite groups due to its challenging terrain and limited access, which offers insurgents a tactical advantage. However, with continued operations like this, security forces aim to disrupt the organizational structure of the Naxalites and bring stability to the affected districts.
