NEW DELHI — A political exchange unfolded in Delhi as Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and CPI MP D Raja clashed over comments linking intelligence failures to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Speaking on the subject of national intelligence systems, Tharoor remarked that "no country has foolproof intelligence," referencing the surprise Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, as a global example of intelligence lapses.
However, CPI leader D Raja quickly distanced himself from Tharoor's analogy. "I do not agree with the comparison made by the MP with Israel," he stated firmly. Raja reiterated his party’s long-standing position against Israel’s actions, labeling them as acts of genocide against the Palestinian people. "The Palestinian people have the right to have their homeland," he asserted, emphasizing the CPI’s condemnation of Israel’s refusal to accept international calls for peace, including the two-nation solution endorsed by the United Nations.
Raja further challenged the Congress party to clarify whether it endorsed Tharoor’s views, adding that Israel’s ongoing actions against Palestinians could not be justified under any circumstances.
