Mumbai — In a pointed rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent statement alleging that the Telangana government serves as the "ATM of the Congress party," Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy defended the Gandhi family's legacy and rejected accusations of corruption.
Reddy, addressing a public gathering, spoke emotionally about the sacrifices of the Gandhi family, pointing out that despite being in power for decades, the family has no personal property of their own. "The Congress party has provided homes to millions of poor families, yet the Gandhi family itself doesn’t own a house," he said, emphasizing the personal integrity he attributes to the family.
Reddy continued, referencing the day Rahul Gandhi's membership in Parliament was revoked, leaving him, as Reddy noted, without a residence to return to. He highlighted the sacrifices of the family, mentioning the assassination of Rahul’s father, Rajiv Gandhi, and grandmother, Indira Gandhi. "For a family who has given so much and lost so much, what use would they have for money?" he questioned.
Reddy also urged Modi to exercise restraint in his criticisms, suggesting that his comments were unbecoming of the Prime Minister's office. "Modi ji, these accusations are beneath you. Try to uphold the dignity of the Prime Minister's chair," he said, requesting a level of decorum in the discourse.
This exchange underscores the escalating political rivalry between BJP and Congress in Telangana, with both parties intensifying their campaigns as they vie for public support in the upcoming elections.
