Patna — Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Bihar government and the Election Commission, alleging a conspiracy to disenfranchise poor and marginalized voters through an abrupt and impractical voter list revision process.
Speaking to the media in Patna, Yadav said, “This step has been taken suddenly. Earlier, this was not in the schedule of the Election Commission. Now they want to prepare a fresh voter list in just 25 days. This is impossible.”
He pointed out the logistical and humanitarian challenges, especially in light of floods affecting nearly 73% of Bihar’s geographical area, saying people are more concerned with saving their lives and property than scrambling for documents. “How will they go door to door to 8 crore people in 25 days? Documents are being demanded that the poor don’t even have,” he said.
Tejashwi accused the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of orchestrating this sudden move out of fear of electoral defeat. “It took nearly two years to complete the process last time. How will they do it in 25 days now? It smells like a conspiracy,” he added. “They want to cut the votes of the poor, backward, Dalits, and minorities so they can win the election through manipulation.”
The RJD leader demanded transparency in the electoral process and called on the Election Commission to clarify the rationale behind the abrupt voter list revision. His remarks come at a politically charged moment, with Bihar heading into a closely contested election where voter mobilization in rural and flood-affected areas will be a crucial factor.
