PATNA | Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday intensified his criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging external political influence over the ongoing voter list revision exercise in Bihar. Addressing a press conference, Yadav accused the ECI of disregarding the concerns raised by the opposition alliance, the Mahagathbandhan, regarding alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
“Yesterday, a delegation from the Mahagathbandhan presented our detailed concerns to the Election Commission. However, it seemed that the ECI had no intention of even considering our grievances,” Yadav remarked. He went on to allege, “The entire process of preparing Bihar’s voter list is being dictated by two individuals from Gujarat, sidelining constitutional procedures and democratic fairness.”
Yadav’s comments come amid ongoing apprehensions among opposition parties that the SIR process could lead to the arbitrary deletion of voters, particularly those from economically weaker sections. He reiterated that the Opposition has consistently raised objections over the timing, methodology, and lack of transparency in the exercise, but these issues remain unaddressed.
The RJD leader also questioned the impartiality of the Election Commission, emphasizing that electoral roll revisions must be free from political interference. “Voter lists are the foundation of democracy. If this foundation is compromised due to political diktats, it is a direct threat to the democratic rights of the people,” he said.
