By A Staff Reporter — New Delhi: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Daggumalla Prasada Rao has responded to recent allegations from members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) concerning illegal detentions in Andhra Pradesh. On a visit to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) headquarters in Delhi, YSRCP MPs filed an official complaint, requesting NHRC intervention for what they describe as unjust detentions targeting YSRCP supporters.
The complaint details a list of cases presented to the NHRC, which YSRCP claims demonstrate politically motivated and arbitrary arrests. However, Prasada Rao, addressing the press, dismissed the allegations, asserting that all detentions were executed lawfully and with due investigative procedure.
"YSR Congress Party MPs have approached the NHRC, presenting a list of what they call ‘illegal detentions.’ However, an analysis of the cases shows that individuals who were briefly detained were promptly released after preliminary investigation. In cases where evidence confirmed wrongdoing, formal charges were filed," Prasada Rao stated. He emphasized that any detentions occurred only in cases where sufficient grounds existed, refuting claims of unjust treatment.
This clash over detention practices highlights escalating tensions between TDP and YSR Congress, as both parties navigate an increasingly polarized political landscape in Andhra Pradesh. TDP claims the detentions were necessary to maintain law and order, while YSRCP asserts that the arrests aim to silence dissent.
