Delhi | BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, addressing two contentious issues — the ongoing National Herald case and the recent unrest in Murshidabad over the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

Speaking to the media, Chugh said, “Law is doing its work. If someone thinks that by putting ‘Nehru’ and ‘Gandhi’ surnames one can be above law and Constitution, and get the license of looting, then unfortunately it is the fault of their mindset.”

He alleged that the National Herald case is not merely about financial irregularities but an attempt to exploit and distort the legacy of India’s freedom movement. “Now when the court does its proceedings, they don’t have faith in the court either. The National Herald is not just a case of corruption; it is an attempt to plunder the legacy of the freedom struggle,” he added.

Turning to the situation in West Bengal, Chugh expressed concern over violence and migration in Murshidabad following protests linked to the Waqf (Amendment) Act. He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of siding with “Jihadi ideology” and neglecting the plight of Hindus in the region.

“Bengal is burning and Mamata Banerjee is worried about Muslim League’s ‘Jihadi’ ideology. She is not worried about those Hindus of Murshidabad who are migrating,” Chugh alleged. “She has stooped so low that now she is pointing fingers at our brave BSF jawans. This vote bank politics has made Mamata Banerjee modern Jinnah.”
