Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Reacting to the Supreme Court’s order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the tragic Karur stampede, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan described the decision as a “welcome move” and a “ray of hope” for Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters, Soundararajan alleged that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government has been systematically suppressing Opposition voices in the state. “The Supreme Court’s order has come as a relief to those who are being crushed by the DMK. Whenever an Opposition party appeals to hold a programme, the government delays or denies permission, keeping them in uncertainty until the last minute,” she said.
Soundararajan further stated that actor-turned-politician Vijay, whose event became the scene of the tragic incident, was “a victim of such atrocities of the DMK government.” She accused the state administration of creating an atmosphere of political discrimination and mismanagement, which she said has eroded public trust.
