New Delhi — BJP leader and former Union Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Tuesday sharply rebutted comments made by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti regarding India-Pakistan relations, stating unequivocally that the Indian government’s position on talks with Pakistan remains unchanged.
"The Prime Minister has clearly stated that talks with Pakistan will only happen over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and terrorism," Hussain said, dismissing any possibility of broader diplomatic engagement under current circumstances.
Hussain accused Pakistan of being a "terror state" and claimed it had lost the recent conflict with India so decisively that it was forced to beg for a ceasefire. He also lashed out at Pakistan's internal political structure, calling it a "shameless country" where the military, led by General Asim Munir, pulls the strings of a puppet civilian government.
"Pakistan's General calls himself a Field Marshal without justification, and its army mourns the death of terrorists. This reveals the true character of their military establishment," Hussain added.
The remarks come after Mehbooba Mufti criticized the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and warned against provocation with Pakistan, advocating for peace and bilateral dialogue. Her comments, however, have drawn backlash from BJP leaders who accuse opposition figures of undermining India’s firm stance on national security.
