Hyderabad: Political turbulence continues in the Rao family as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday suspended K Kavitha, daughter of party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, for alleged anti-party activities. The move came barely three months after her sister, Y S Sharmila, walked away from the family fold in a dramatic fallout.

Kavitha, once seen as a prominent face of the party, had earlier described her father as a “God” surrounded by “demons,” signalling her continued loyalty despite growing internal discord. However, her suspension marks a sharp turn in the family’s political narrative. Shortly after the announcement, Kavitha quit the party, deepening the rift.

The Rao family feud has become increasingly public, with Sharmila charting her own political course and now Kavitha sidelined from the organisation. Analysts say the developments point to a struggle over legacy and direction within the BRS at a time when the party is attempting to consolidate its base after losing power in Telangana.

Party insiders noted that the leadership viewed Kavitha’s recent actions as damaging to discipline and unity. Her departure follows a series of controversies, including political rivalries and allegations that have weakened her standing within the party.
