Kolkata: Tempers flared and rhetoric escalated outside the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday as BJP workers staged a protest in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Leading the charge was Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, whose remarks stirred controversy both within political circles and on social media.
Addressing the media during the protest, Adhikari declared, “We burned 26 Pakistani flags—it is appropriate. Pakistan should be completely wiped out, just like Israel did with Gaza. This should happen under PM Modi’s leadership.” His comments, invoking comparisons to the Israel-Gaza conflict, have drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders and rights activists alike.

The BJP protest was organized in condemnation of the militant strike in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of several Indian soldiers. The party accused the central and state governments of not doing enough to counter cross-border terrorism and demanded a strong response.
While BJP supporters cheered Adhikari’s hardline stance, political opponents called the remarks inflammatory and dangerous. Trinamool Congress leaders denounced the statement as “irresponsible” and warned it could incite communal tensions.
