NEW DELHI — Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has demanded that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) take action against one of its MPs who made controversial remarks about farmers, calling them "rapists and murderers." Shrinate emphasized that such statements are unprecedented in independent India and called on the BJP to either remove the MP from the party or issue a formal apology.
"We believe that farmers have never been called rapists and murderers in this country, in independent India. She is the MP of the BJP and was selected by the leadership. BJP can't get rid of this issue by saying that it doesn't represent us," Shrinate stated.
She further criticized the BJP for not addressing the MP's comments about the United States and China allegedly destabilizing the country, urging both the Defence Ministry and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to provide clarification on the matter. "The second thing is that she said that the US and China are destabilising the country, it's a big thing but no clarification was given on that. Shouldn't the Defence Ministry and MEA clarify it?" she added.
