Kolkata, West Bengal: Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of a Rs 2 lakh compensation for families of those who have died this month, questioning the transparency and accuracy of the claim. Majumdar challenged Banerjee to verify the actual number of deaths reported in the current month.

"Today Mamata Banerjee has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation. I challenge Mamata Banerjee to find out the details of how many people died this month?" Majumdar said, casting doubt on the effectiveness and sincerity of the compensation measure.

In his statement, Majumdar also addressed the ongoing strike by junior doctors, stating that while junior doctors are on strike, senior doctors continue to perform their duties. He accused the Chief Minister of politicizing the situation, asserting that Banerjee’s actions are designed to incite public sentiment against the medical professionals involved in the strike.

"You (CM Mamata Banerjee) are politicising the issue and trying to incite the public against doctors," Majumdar added, reflecting concerns over the handling of the strike and its broader implications for public health and political discourse.

Majumdar’s comments highlight the escalating tensions between the state government and the medical community, with significant implications for public trust and healthcare administration in the region.
