New Delhi — BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi launched a sharp attack on the Congress party over the National Herald case during a press conference, raising serious questions about the controversial financial dealings under investigation.

Trivedi termed the case “one of the strangest in Indian history,” alleging that a company with properties worth thousands of crores was transferred under the pretext of a ₹90 crore debt — and notably, “the buyer and the seller were the same.” The BJP leader was referring to the acquisition of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publisher of the National Herald, by Young Indian, a company controlled by senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress, which is staging nationwide protests against the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet in the case, has claimed political vendetta. However, Trivedi countered, stating, “This was a company established in memory of freedom fighters by Jawaharlal Nehru, yet it was shut down during Congress' own rule.”

He further questioned why, despite five decades in power, the Congress couldn’t preserve the publication, adding, “Did it become so unpopular that no one was ready to buy it? It raises a serious question on Congress’ intentions.”
