Moradabad, UP: Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan has strongly criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, arguing that it could lead to the unlawful confiscation of Waqf properties. Speaking at a public event, Hasan expressed concern over the potential misuse of the bill by state governments to seize Waqf lands through district magistrates (DMs).
"Nobody approves the Waqf Bill. The intention behind it is to confiscate Waqf lands. A law should be made to protect Waqf properties from illegal encroachment, but this bill will only make things worse," Hasan said.
He raised doubts about the impartiality of district magistrates, who work under the pressure of state governments. "We fear that Waqf lands will be seized through the actions of DMs. The law is not just about land; it divides the country," he added.
Hasan’s remarks reflect widespread concerns among religious and community leaders about the potential consequences of the bill. The Samajwadi Party leader called for reforms that would safeguard Waqf properties from illegal encroachments and maintain fairness in their management.
The debate over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill continues to escalate, with critics warning of its divisive nature and its potential to undermine trust in the government’s handling of religious properties.
