In a recent statement, Samajwadi Party MP Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, expressing concerns over its alignment with the Constitution. According to Nadvi, the message that has spread across the country suggests that the government's intentions behind this Bill are not right.
He highlighted that the Bill appears to be against Articles 14, 26, and 29 of the Constitution, which raises significant worries among all stakeholders. Nadvi argued that typically, new laws are introduced to enhance existing provisions, but in this case, the amendment seems to aim at weakening them. He emphasized the need for better legislative intentions that align with constitutional values.
