New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday issued a sharp appeal to the government to take urgent and decisive action to address Delhi’s worsening air pollution, warning that the crisis is endangering lives across age groups. Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Gandhi said the situation had become intolerable, especially for the most vulnerable.
“It’s the government’s responsibility to do something. Children are dying, and elderly people like me are severely impacted by this. They can’t breathe,” she said, emphasising that toxic air quality has turned into a public health emergency requiring immediate attention rather than political blame-shifting.
Gandhi added that she has written an article detailing her concerns and suggesting steps that should be taken to combat the pollution crisis. “I have also written an article as to what is in my mind and what should be done,” she noted, indicating that the challenge must be met with a clear and sustained policy response.
