Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh has targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his party’s failure to eradicate poverty during its years in power. Singh referenced Gandhi’s grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s famous slogan, "Garibi Hatao," and criticized Rahul for not following through on that promise.
"Rahul Gandhi forgets that his grandmother said, 'Mein Kehti Hoon Garibi Hatao, Wo Kehte Hain Indira Hatao.' You could not remove it. Your father too could not eradicate it. Manmohan Singh and others too came to power but they could not eradicate poverty," Singh remarked.
Singh went on to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for implementing policies that directly benefit the poor, such as free ration, affordable housing, and the construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He also pointed out that under Modi’s leadership, initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and health insurance schemes are being provided to all citizens, irrespective of caste or religion.
"The poor didn’t get houses, toilets, or health insurance schemes under Congress. PM Modi is providing ration free of cost, houses are being built, toilets are being constructed, and health insurance schemes are being implemented. These schemes are not based on caste or religion; PM Modi’s mantra is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,’" Singh added, underscoring the inclusive nature of Modi’s government.
Singh’s comments come as part of the BJP's ongoing campaign to highlight the perceived failures of previous Congress-led governments and position Modi’s administration as a champion of the poor and marginalized sections of society.
