By A Staff Reporter: Shri Deepak Verma has taken over as the Inspector General (IG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Eastern Sector Headquarters, Ranchi. A 1993-batch officer who joined the force through the Civil Services Examination, Shri Verma brings 32 years of distinguished experience in various sectors of industrial and aviation security.
Before this appointment, he served as Deputy Inspector General, Airport Sector (East & North East), at CISF Headquarters, Kolkata, overseeing security operations at 20 airports. Under his leadership, the Aviation Security Training Institute (ASTI) was established at Guwahati Airport, and CISF was inducted at Lengpui Airport in Mizoram, along with several other key developments including the takeover of Patna Airport’s new terminal building.

An alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Shri Verma holds MA and MPhil degrees and was a gold medalist in Geography from St. Columba’s College, Ranchi University. Despite qualifying JRF/NET for a lectureship, he chose a career in the para-military forces to serve the nation.

Over his career, he has led security operations in critical sectors — ports, oil, power, steel, and currency — and in insurgency and Naxal-affected areas. As a designated CISF consultant, he has conducted high-profile security consultancy projects for IIT Kharagpur, TISCO Jamshedpur, the Taj Mahal, and ONGC Nazira, among others.

Trained in advanced counterterrorism and post-blast investigation courses in the USA, Shri Verma also spearheaded disaster management programs at the National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad. In recognition of his exemplary service, he received the DG’s Commendation Disc on CISF Raising Day in 2018.
With his extensive field experience, academic excellence, and strategic vision, Shri Verma is expected to strengthen the CISF’s role in safeguarding India’s critical infrastructure and advancing its mission of national security.
