Nagpur, Maharashtra: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday escalated his criticism of the Congress party, asserting that any political formation partnering with it is destined for failure. Speaking at a public event in Nagpur, Chouhan said it had now become evident that “whoever Congress stands with will drown,” citing electoral setbacks experienced by various opposition figures who had aligned with the party.
Chouhan pointed to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar as examples of leaders whose political fortunes suffered after joining hands with the Congress. “Defeat is certain wherever Congress forms a part of the alliance,” he remarked, adding in a lighter vein, “Hum toh doobe hain sanam, tumko bhi le doobenge.” He further advised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to “beware” of the consequences of any potential collaboration.
Turning his attention to Bihar’s political developments, Chouhan said the newly formed government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had created a “balanced cabinet” and signalled stability after the collapse of the Mahagathbandhan. He described the previous grand alliance as one rooted in “selfishness,” alleging that its leaders were more focused on personal power struggles than public welfare.
“With parties breaking apart and families getting estranged, it is clear that the Mahagathbandhan is not a true alliance anymore,” he stated. Chouhan added that the shifting political landscape in Bihar reflected the public’s desire for governance centred on development, stability, and long-term welfare.
