Mysuru: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday emphasized the importance of mixed and integrated farming practices to help small farmers improve income and sustainability. Addressing a gathering in Mysuru, Karnataka, Chouhan said that cultivating multiple crops and diversifying into allied activities such as animal husbandry and fish farming can make agriculture more profitable, especially for those with limited land.

“For those who have very little land, how can we do profitable farming on less land? One way is mixed cropping. Don’t just plant one crop; plant multiple crops. It has many benefits,” Chouhan explained. He further noted that experiments in integrated farming across several regions are showing encouraging results by combining agriculture with livestock rearing and fisheries.

The minister also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing farmers’ welfare in policymaking. “I thank the Prime Minister that he has not compromised on the interests of our farmers with any country. The Prime Minister has decided that the interests of our farmers, livestock rearers, fishermen, and the poor will be protected,” he said.
